About ART/WORK

ART/WORK: Worthwhile Opportunities through Resources & Knowledge is a 12 session visual arts program for youth in grades 3rd-8th in Clinton County entering it’s second year. The program is free to the students.

Throughout the program students will be working with professional Teaching Artists that are established in their field and can serve in a mentor role and source of inspiration to the participating students. Art experiences may include drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber art, digital art, collage, and more!

The four goals of ART/WORK: Worthwhile Opportunities through Resources & Knowledge are to:

• Empower youth to express their vision and voice through visual arts.

• Enable youth to build life skills such as self-confidence, perseverance, and problem-solving.

• Encourage youth to connect with the community in Plattsburgh, NY and beyond within Clinton County.

• Establish mentoring relationships with youth.

In addition to visual art experiences, creating artwork, students will also have the opportunity to:

• Display their artwork to the community.

• Learn how to speak about their artwork and inspirations, and feel confident doing so.

• Meet professional artists in the community.

•Meet their peers from other schools outside their district/homeschool experience.

Giving youth a voice!
We view our students as co-producers in ART/WORK. We want students to help guide the activities so they feel they have a voice. We also encourage the older students to become mentors to our younger students giving them more of a sense of responsibility.

Lead Teaching Artist, Sara Acors, will be scheduling interviews with interested students.

ART/WORK: Worthwhile Opportunities through Resources & Knowledge is free to participants thanks to funding from Stewart’s Foundation and 2025 Youth Development Program funding from the Clinton County Youth Bureau.
